It's a flower!

Glassblowing lessons at our workshop near Andover offer an insight into a craft that has fascinated mankind for over two thousand years.

Here you will discover how to transform molten glass into your very own objects using traditional glassblowing techniques, guided by Mark, a glassmaker with over twenty years experience. During your lesson, you will enjoy the 'one-to-one' attention and assistance of an expert teacher in a friendly and relaxed studio atmosphere.

Each lesson is designed to give you first hand experience of the fantastic properties of hot glass. You'll learn all the basics of safe hotshop working: gathering, shaping and blowing glass. You’ll be taught the basic skills to enable you to centre, control and manipulate glass in its molten form. Through demonstration and expert supervision, you’ll begin to acquire the ability to transform this unique material in a variety of ways.

By the end of the lesson you'll have learnt about glass itself, furnaces and the traditional tools used to make glass - and you also get to keep any or all of the successful pieces that you make during your glassblowing lesson(s)!*

All you need to bring is equal helpings of energy, commitment and creative imagination for a truly unforgettable experience. We will do the rest.

For safety and comfort we recommend that all students wear jeans or trousers, rather than skirts (or kilts!), and comfortable shoes or trainers (no open-toed sandals or high heels!)

Please contact us if you would like further information before your lesson.

*Please note that hot glass needs up to 24 hours to cool and ‘anneal’ after making, so you will have to wait until the next day before collecting your masterpieces, or arrange for us to post them to you.

One or two day lessons

Teaching in the new workshop Another satisfied customer!

These sessions, which normally run from 9.30am to 5.00pm, are for up to two students at a time. The sessions are designed to be an introduction to glassblowing and are aimed at beginners. They would also suit those who have already had some experience at glassblowing, and who wish to build on this (we would adapt the sessions according to the level of the student).

The course will include an introduction to the studio and the glassworking tools, health and safety, and the properties of glass. The emphasis will be on learning the techniques to control hot glass, and students will learn to gather, shape and blow glass to create simple vessels. Students will also be able to experiment with adding colour and simple decoration to the vessel.

Bookings would be for one or two days initially, with an option to book further days at the time of booking or at the time of the course. Sessions may be booked during the week or at weekends. Days do not have to be consecutive.

We charge £200 for one person for a one day course, £380 for one person for a two day course, £340 for two people for a one day course (booked together for the same date), £640 for two people for a two day course (booked together for the same dates), and £150 per person for each extra day. We recommend bringing snacks, but tea, coffee and a simple lunch (baked potatoes, cheese and salad) will be provided.

If you need accommodation during the course, take a look at this page for a short list of places to stay.
